Soft tissue management around dental implants
Placing implants in the aesthetic zone is no routine procedure – it’s an advanced treatment that demands precision and planning. Long-term success depends on maintaining the delicate balance of soft and hard tissue architecture to create natural-looking, stable results. Correct 3D implant positioning is key. But even the best positioning may not be enough.
That’s where biomaterials come in. To recreate a natural “pink aesthetic” that beautifully frames the “white aesthetic,” both soft and hard tissue enhancement is often essential. Innovative materials, including soft tissue grafts, provide reliable solutions for volume augmentation – used alone or in combination with techniques like guided bone regeneration (GBR). With the right tools and techniques, aesthetic implantology becomes not just predictable – but exceptional.
Redefining Bone Regeneration in Implantology: the NOVAMag® product line.
Say goodbye to complex grafting and invasive procedures. Today’s implantology is powered by advanced biomaterials that make bone regeneration predictable and efficient. The latest sticky bone solutions offer unmatched handling, faster healing, and superior outcomes.
Membrane matters? Absolutely. While collagen membranes set the standard, who really wants to remove titanium meshes? Now, biodegradable metal membranes give you long-term barrier function without the hassle of removal. A real game changer in dental regeneration is the NOVAMag® product line. It introduces a new class of synthetic, mechanically robust, yet fully bioresorbable biomaterials that gradually transform into natural bone. This opens up exciting new possibilities in bone regeneration. Designed specifically for alveolar ridge augmentation, the NOVAMag® product line includes the NOVAMag® membrane – a magnesium-based barrier membrane and the NOVAMag® fixation screw, available in multiple sizes for secure fixation of both membranes and bone blocks. NOVAMag® Shield on the other hand, was specifically designed to simplify socket preservation in cases of a missing buccal wall. It’s use is minimally invasive, easy to apply, and designed to maximize results while keeping your patients more comfortable. Clinical experiences, as well as tips and tricks for handling of NOVAMag® will be presented.
Dr. Giorgio Tabanella graduated from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles where he obtained the Certificate in Periodontics as well as the Master of Science in Craniofacial Biology. He was awarded as “Outstanding Periodontal Researcher in Surgery and Implantology” by the California Society of Periodontists for his study on bone remodeling. Furthermore, he is the Scientific Coordinator, Director of O.R.E.C. – Oral Reconstruction and Education Center (www.TABANELLAOREC.com), and is reviewer, and author of several publications in peer reviewed journals. Dr. Tabanella lectures all over the world on implant and periodontal surgery, aesthetic management in dental implant and periodontal therapy, peri-implant bone remodeling, soft and hard tissue reconstruction around natural teeth and implants as well as the re-treatment of failures. His research focuses on tissue regeneration and augmentation with different bone and soft tissue grafting materials, peri-implant and dental bone loss, novel protocols for the repair of ailing dental implants. Dr. Tabanella maintains a private practice in Rome, Italy where he also holds advanced courses and live surgeries on tissue regeneration and retreatment of implant failures.
LECTURE
Dr. Hassan Maghaireh
Rethinking Staged Bone Grafting: From complications to innovations.
Staged bone grafting remains a cornerstone in managing complex implant cases, yet traditional approaches are often fraught with biological, technical, and patient-related complications. This lecture will critically examine the common pitfalls of the conventional staged grafting protocols and present a contemporary, evidence-based framework to avoid and manage common complications associated with staged bone grafting. Moreover, modern innovations, such as CAD/CAM allograft blocks, the NOVAMag® plate technique, and digital planning in staged bone grafting will be shown. Especially, such modern techniques can be a real alternative to the complex grafting procedures in general dental practices by helping to minimize the risk of dental implant placements in atrophic ridges.
Learning objectives for this lecture:
Participants will be able to develop a good level of understanding of the following topics:
Dr. Hassan Maghaireh graduated in 2008 at the University of Manchester. He is an aesthetic implant dentist from the United Kingdom and is the Head of Scientific Committee of the British Academy of Implant & Restorative Dentistry (BAIRD). Next to being owner and head of the dental implants team of Leeds Dental Implants & Cosmetic Clinic, he is an Associate Professor in Oral Surgery & Implant Dentistry at The College of Medicine & Dentistry – Ulster University in Birmingham as well as Mentor & Examiner at The Implant MSc Program at the University of Manchester. Moreover, he is a fellow of the International Team of Implantology (ITI), ITI Speaker and ITI Study Club Director for Leeds, United Kingdom. On top of that, he has published many dental implant systematic reviews and random controlled clinical trials with special emphasis on soft and bone tissue management in the aesthetic zone. He is on the editorial board of the Journal of Clinical Trials and a co-author at Cochrane collaboration.

Dr. Irfan Abas
Sinus Floor Elevation: Lateral vs. Crestal: When, How, and the Evidence!
After tooth extraction in the maxilla, pneumatization of the maxillary sinus may occur, leading to a reduction in vertical alveolar bone height. Although dental implants remain the preferred method for tooth rehabilitation, limited vertical bone height presents a clinical challenge. To address this, sinus floor elevation procedures can be performed.
This lecture will explore the decision-making process regarding simultaneous versus staged implant placement in combination with sinus floor elevation. Two primary techniques – the lateral and crestal approaches – will be discussed in detail. Using the latest evidence, we will outline clinical procedures, indications, and decision-making criteria for both approaches.
Learning Objectives:
Dr. Irfan Abas is specialized in implant placement and bone reconstructions. In addition to general dentistry, Irfan Abas has specialized in implantology, oral surgery and restorative dentistry. In addition to his work at Dental Practice Abas & Bosker, he has also authored many articles and been an editor for the dental journal DentistPractice. His first publication was in the Dutch Journal of Dentistry together with Professor Gert Meijer (Radboud UMC), under whose responsibility he successfully completed the 4-year postgraduate course in Reconstructive Dentistry (Radboud UMC) in 2014. Since 2019, he has had his own training institute the Abas Implant Academy, to train dentists in oral surgery and implantology. Teaching and lecturing, in addition to his work at the chair, is his passion and he does so regularly at home and abroad. He has grown from a graduate specialist in the field of Oral Implantology & Restorative Dentistry to a well-known international speaker.

The NOVAMag® membrane is produced from pure magnesium metal, biodegradable metal that is resorbed by the human body. It can be cut to size and shaped to treat individual bone defects. Because the NOVAMag® membrane is completely resorbed several months after implantation, a second surgical procedure is not necessary. Read more>

NOVAMag® SHIELD is a fully resorbable solution for buccal and palatal bone defects. Its flapless, fixation-free placement supports graft material and preserves bone structure. It reduces the need for extensive augmentation, helps maintain the natural bone contour, and lowers the risk of resorption—ultimately improving implant success rates. Read more>
